For fashion-conscious brides, New York Bridal Week is the only place you need to go for current and future bridal trends. This is the stomping ground of legendary designers such as Monique Lhullier, Oscar de la Renta, Marchesa, and Valentino, as well as bridal brands such as Sareh Nouri and Galia Lahav.

When it comes to colours, patterns, tailoring and accessories, these runway collections set the standard for the rest of the industry, and inspire countless brides along the way.

If you didn’t make it to the front row this year, we’ve got you covered. Here are our top trends, hot from the runway...

Separates

Monique Lhullier, Jim Hjelm and Amsale took two-piece wedding dresses to the next level, with a series of beautiful dresses with detachable skirts. However, the crop-top and billowing skirt combo still reigns supreme – this was one of the freshest looks on the Bridal Week runway, despite being at least four seasons old.

Colours

Blush pink and champagne gold have enjoyed resurgence in recent years, and they are still going strong. But if NY Bridal Week is anything to go by, the next big colour trend will be pale blue. Lazaro, Sareh Nouri and Delpozo all sent silvery blue/grey dresses down the runway and the effect was simply stunning.

Black and white wedding dresses were another surprising trend this year, calling to mind Coco Chanel and 1980s power dressing.

Metallics

This is the year that metallic graduated from accessories to the main event. After a few years of rustic simplicity, designers are cranking up the glamour again with sequins and lamé galore! Naeem Khan went all out with a gold foil gown topped with a golden crown, while Jean-Ralph Turin used a subtle gold shimmer on his dresses that was just mesmerising.

Royal favourite Jenny Packham showcased a sparkling silver collection that was both elegant and fun, while Zac Posen went typically unconventional with swathes of sleek silver lamé.

Floral Print

Flowers and wedding dresses are a classic combination, but this year designers are bringing them even closer together. Some of the most eye-catching wedding dresses of NY Bridal Week were covered in floral designs – from tiny, romantic wildflower prints, to big bold patterns.

Ramona Keveza, Mark Zunino, and Houghton stole the show with their floral numbers, and we predict that this is a trend that’s just going to grow and grow.

Minimalist chic

Clean lines and exquisite tailoring are the trademarks of a great designer, so it was no surprise that NY Bridal Week saw nearly every fashion label showing off their skills with a repertoire of fuss-free, minimalist wedding dresses.

Protagonist, Jason Wu and Wes Gordon all debuted elegant gowns with no sequins, no sparkle, no prints and no embellishments. These deceptively simple dresses were typically paired with red lipstick, loose hair and limited accessories to let the bride’s natural beauty shine through.
